Happy Medicare Advantage New Year!

Happy New Year and Congratulations if you have a new Medicare Advantage Plan for 2020!  I am very excited for the new year and I resolve to make sure all my clients make the most out of your Medicare Advantage Plans this year and beyond!  Here are some tips to help you make the most out of your benefits:

- Be sure to let your providers know if you have a new plan for 2020 so they can properly process your claims.

- Be sure to stay in network!  PPO plans offer out of network coverage; however you will pay more so when you make your appointment, you should double check.  Most providers will "take" a PPO plan so be sure to ask if they are "in network".  If you have an HMO you must stay in network.  Your provider should know when they refer you as long as they have your updated insurance information.  HMO plans do not normally have out-of-network benefits so being sure you are in network is more important for you.

- If you have a new HMO plan, you will need to get your referrals aligned with your new plan.  You may be able to do this over the phone or during your next appointment.  Don't see a specialist that was referred to you when you had another plan as these need to be assigned through your Primary Care Provider through your new plan.  You don't want any unnecessary charges!

- Many plans have additional benefits like dental, vision, fitness memberships etc.  If you have these benefits, make sure you understand where you can go and what is covered.

- Some plans have deductibles on the prescription coverage, usually for the drugs in the higher formulary tiers.  Be ready for higher copays in the first few trips to the drug store if this applies to you.

- If you are prescribed a medicine that is not on your plan's formulary, ask for a formulary exception.  This is a request that the insurance company coordinates with your provider to get you prescription added to the formulary for you or they may find an equivalent drug that does the same thing.

Make note of any changes to your medical situation or prescriptions during the year and we can review them to see if changes are required during the next Annual Enrollment Period (AEP).

May the new year bring many blessings, good health and happiness to you and yours!  Please call me if you need assistance.  Of course my assistance never comes at any additional cost and I look forward to serving you!
